If only I were short…

I am not petite at 5’8 even though you might guess that I’m short by looking at my shoe collection.  I frequently find adorable dresses or skirts that would be fantastic if they just added a few inches of fabric at the bottom.  When a friend with an amazing petite body recently asked what she should buy on a shopping trip to Forever21, I went a little crazy choosing all the things I would be afraid to wear (as well as some things I would wear).  Why must lengths vary between mini and midi….at least we will soon start wearing tights, giving some of us an excuse to raise our hemlines!

Here are the (MANY) items I selected for my friend…you know who you are. Tops, bottoms then dresses.

Fashion warrior!

Warrior cultures throughout history are now associated with specific styles, so why not combat boring fashion choices by becoming a fashion warrior yourself?!  Although I do love breastplates and nudity, I have selected some more appropriate choices for this fashion warrior attire!  As a fashionista, you cannot fade into the background, and by all means DO NOT WEAR CAMO!  The element of surprise is not necessary when you have the skills of a fashion warrior, so be bold and confront your enemy (bland, boring, drab attire) head on in bright, bold colours and prints!  Though historically warriors were often men, it’s the era of girl power and time for you to take on the world in style!

The first warrior inspiration is from the Aztec culture of the Americas and is the inspiration for this entire post.  This Aztec print skirt from H&M wouldn’t be terribly effective in an actual fight, but it’s bold, fun, and shows off your strong legs (second in a female warrior only to her cunning and reason!).

The next important component of a fashion warrior’s uniform is a pair of gladiator sandals.  The ultimate warrior should opt for a heeled version like these to bring a feminine flare to the Roman tradition of gladiator warriors!  If you cannot do a proper roundhouse kick in heels, flat gladiators are also acceptable – but you should consider practicing this skill for the future.

On top, I have take inspiration from ancient Greeks who were the first to propagate the myth of a group of female warriors, the Amazons, who frequently fought one of their best known heroes, Herakles.  This group of female warriors provided a voice and strength for women, uncommon in their time.  This early feminism inspired tales of female warriors throughout the world and within popular culture (ie Xena).   In Greek art, these women were often depicted in traditional Greek armour, as worn by the males of their society, with tops which resemble the peplum shape in these two Amazon inspired tops (great with a tight mini like the one above).  The Tinley Road top has a higher price tag, but I couldn’t resist the leather (or rather vegan leather) because it nods to the Amazons’ use of animals.  The pink Charlotte Russe top is friendlier on the wallet, and the colour adds a fun, feminine flare!  Accessories are up to you because I have to get back to work, but leave suggestions in the comments below!
